An Overview of 30-Day UST Walkthrough Inspections in Florida

  • The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) does not have a state-specific form; however they have previously suggested the use of the PEI RP900-21 forms.

  • If you (or your vendor) are using PEI RP900, then BOTH the Appendix A-1 Monthly UST Inspection Checklist and the Appendix A-4 Optional Periodic UST Inspection Checklist must be completed monthly. If only the Appendix A-1 Monthly UST Inspection Checklist is completed, you will not be compliance with Federal regulations.

  • TankForms has created a custom walkthrough inspection form which can be used in lieu of the RP900-21 forms. Why complete two forms when you can utilize the Florida Petroleum Marketers Association (FPMA) Walkthrough Inspection Form and have the report stored in the cloud with inspection photos for future access?

  • Florida UST owners have to follow both Federal (EPA) and State (FDEP) regulations. Some of the FDEP regulations are more stringent than the EPA regulations and include inspection items that the EPA requires annually instead of monthly.

How often do walkthrough inspections have to be conducted in Florida?

Federal regulations state that UST walkthrough inspections must be conducted at a frequency of no greater than 30 days. However, the FDEP regulations state that UST walkthrough inspections shall be conducted each calendar month and at a frequency of no greater than 35 days.

As state regulations cannot be less stringent than federal regulations, UST walkthrough inspections in Florida (and all states) must be conducted at a frequency of no greater than 30 days.
